Gnoll History [Nov. 20th, 2010|11:28 am]

Skirmisher Publication has posted the "gnole" story that inspired Gary Gygax to put "gnolls" in the first edition of D&D. It's an important bit of gnoll literary history, and a REALLY good story, too.

Gnoooooll [Apr. 23rd, 2010|11:41 pm]

So....

I'm finally biting the bullet and taking the time to re-do the Gnoll masks for the purposes of selling them, cheaply, to all the Gnolly fans. I need to look into a Maelstrom vendor at some point....
I'm hoping to get them at 1/3 or even 1/4 of the price I used to sell them for. I'd like them out there more than I like making money, so I'll be acting accordingly. I also have ideas for a monthly competition wherein you can win cool stuff for taking a picture of yourself wearing one of my Gnoll masks in an interesting environment (larp game, national landmark, nicely set up shot etc).

So, I'm not just here to let you guys know that, though it is an added bonus. I also remember Uncle Hyena researching if the word "Gnoll" was copyrighted. I forget the outcome - does anyone know it? Can I sell "Gnoll" masks more commercially, or must I invent some other name? I'd like to know sooner than later while I'm getting my cards lined up, hence this post.

Cheers, y'all! Stay Gnolly!

Have been hitting the LibraVox collections like a fiend and I was especially delighted to find some 24 hours worth of Edward John Moreton Drax Plunkett, better known as Lord Dunsany's work. Naturally, one particular story from his "Book of Wonder" gave me particular glee.

GMing Advice? [Dec. 6th, 2009|05:52 pm]

Question for the GMs out there -

How would you design the gnoll twins' encampment and slave pits to be a very real threat to a party of adventurers, and responsible for multiple TPKs? How many gnolls would you need in a raiding party? Landscape is tropical archipelago, with hundreds of rivers, and lots of heavily eroded karst landforms.

Limitations - I'd prefer to use natural cave systems where necessary, with realistic topography ( uneven floors, keyhole cross sections, shafts... ) Also, Drhazz & Jrska make full use of local resources to surprise attackers - beehives and a sling staff for example. Magical items are limited to whatever they've collected from the earlier parties ( such as the one they use for the popular party game of "How Many Villagers Can I Stuff In A Bag Of Holding?" )

The Gnoll Twins [Dec. 6th, 2009|05:43 pm]

Drhazz & Jrska, twin gnolls and gleeful sociopaths who treat everybody else in the world apart from each other as a plaything or a threat. For example, Drhazz raids one kingdom for slaves and sells them in another, and his sister raids THAT kingdom and sells in the first. This is highly lucrative, and the two kingdoms have declared war on each other twice as a result, which is both lucrative and very funny.

There was a third sibling as well, but they killed him a few minutes they were born ( isn't hyena biology wonderful )

Jrska is actually the taller of the two, but it's difficult to see that from this angle. Don't ask what she did to the adventurer that cost her the eye. It was enough to make other gnolls throw up. Drhazz, of course, thought it was hilarious.

Incidentally, Vitus of Clan Scorpion doesn't know them, and would be appalled by them if he did.

Another picture of Jrska, showing off a recent acquisition.

The elf seems surprised about something - I wonder what?

I stumbled across this; it's a 1 MB PDF file. It is a D&D article, but it does contain some interesting ideas, and it has two decent full color gnoll illustrations.
